OLD HABITS

A fortune in lost gems.

A man on the run from his brothers.

A dread secret in Castle Dornica.

Stoce grew up alone on the tough streets of Farport to become an exceptional street thief, but nothing in his life has prepared him for this. Hired for a simple theft, Stoce is now on the run from The Brotherhood.

Stalked by deadly assassins in a strange land, Stoce must face an archmage, soldiers, and a host of guards to find the gems he lost. But what treacherous plot is unfolding in the castle as he searches, and how does the annoyingly noble paladin Judic fit into this conspiracy? Facing impossible odds and outmatched by dark magic and deadly traps, Stoce uses his stealth and skills to search, to survive, and perhaps to find an even greater treasure.

With this book I pulled on many inspirations, from the Thief video games to sea novels I've enjoyed such as the tales of Horatio Hornblower and Jack Aubrey, and more.  There are plenty of Easter eggs to be discovered in the book (I'll give one away: a trip in an apple barrel).

Stoce is an extraordinary thief and while he's quite good at what he does, things don't always go as planned, especially when surrounded by a strange plot that wracks a castle he's trying to rob.

I hope you enjoy this novel and spread the word, I've plenty more in store.

-Christopher Taylor

"A good story about a thief on the run and over his head. He learns some things about himself and meets some great characters "
-Nick Young

"As I read Old Habits, I kept flashing on Heinlein - Taylor's fiction be-bops along with an easy wit and droll connivance that hark back to 'the Dean.'"
-Anna

"Well written, and plenty of action at a decent pace."

-Paul D. Walker

"Good characters and a good pace. I enjoy first person narratives as it makes for better second readings. It's an interesting world and I hope to see more Stoce stories."
-David C. McKinnis
